The Internet industry is the fastest growing industry in the history of our planet!

It has grown 5 times faster than television and 10 times faster than radio in just a few short years. Over 67,000 new users are logging on to the Internet for the first time every single day. It is estimated that there are more than 100 million Internet users world wide. Why has this happened? Because of the buying and selling of goods and services online or what we call E-Commerce. It is estimated that E-Commerce will exceed $200 Billion by the end of the year 2000 and over $500 Billion by the year 2002.

In New Zealand (according to a Statistics NZ report for 1998) there are 325,000 households that have the capability to "go on-line" that is they posses a computer fitted with a modem and access to the telephone systems. This relates to 25% of households, 50% of businesses are "online" and use the Internet (mostly for email) and 30% of small businesses are also online.

Research carried out by A C Nielsen in the 1st Quarter of 1999 (Net user = used in last four weeks) found that 776, 000 New Zealanders used the Internet. In a recent survey on why people use the Internet (by a major NZ ISP) they found that:

78% were searching for business information
73% were looking for personnel information
55% were using the Internet for business or financial services
47% to find out information about or from suppliers
